My husband sent me on a quest yesterday and that was to fnd out how the new aerodynamivs on the new cascadia evolution is giving better mpg. Well, I have my naswer. They are improving the outside of the tractor to reduce variable drag components. Now my hubby is driving a cascadia. My new project today is to get down to his truck to compare notes. Old vs New.

Has anyone looked into the evolutions and what's your opinion?

I have read where they have decreased drag in several areas. Adding wheel caps, integrating the antenea into t the top portion of the cab, and a few.other modeifications to help eliminate drag.

I am excited to see hoe they really preform. Now from what I have heard they put like 70,000 om the wagon, obviously over weight, and took it across country and got 9.5 mpg.

If you're pulling a trailer that's 13-1/2 feet tall and 8-1/2 feet wide, that's the size hole you have to make in the air.

The top brown thing in this pic is obviously pointier.

Look at the grid. The brown things are 2 squares wide, so an airstream hitting the center of the object will have to move outwards one square. The longer point gives the air more time to move over. The top one pushes the air aside during the time it takes to travel 4 squares forward. But the bottom one will have to do it in the time it takes to travel one square. Not only does it move the air sideways at a slower speed, the pointier one also only changes the direction of the air 14 degrees as opposed to the shallower one changing the direction 45 degrees.

There's a hell of a lot more to it than that, but that's just the basic principle behind aerodynamics.

I would look into this a little closer. Your talking 100k gross weight. Betting it was 70k gross.

With a well broken in engine, engine and aerodynamic modifications, proper gearing, and a good driver, this is possible. People are hitting those numbers.

Provided you're geared so you're not redlined at 60 mph, the next best thing for fuel economy is how you drive2.gif it.

wasnt volvo making some crazy claims on fuel economy as well :confused-96:

Yep....Those claims were lies too.

The Crapcadia is aerodynamic, but aerodynamics only play a very small part in fuel mileage.
The main thing that gets you good fuel mileage is operating the equipment efficiently, Something MOST drivers don't do.
I can't begin to tell you how many "drivers" have told me that a truck that's shaped like mine won't ever get more than 4 MPG and then tell me I'm lying when I tell them that I see 7 MPG pretty consistently.

Even the company that I'm leased to has asked my a couple of times how I get such good fuel mileage numbers...I get the best mileage in the fleet, by far.

Learning to run the equipment correctly is the key.

Another thing to remember is that these "tests" that the manufacturers run to be able to make these outlandish MPG claims are NOT done under "real world" conditions.
